(SPII) Awards

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and the Industrial
Development Corporation (IDC) will host the annual Support Programme for
Industrial Innovation (SPII) Awards at the Tusk Mmabatho Hotel in Mmabatho,
North West on 3 November 2006. Deputy Minister of the dti, Ms Elizabeth
Thabethe will deliver the keynote address and receive the 2005/06 SPII annual
report.
The awards, which will be attended by government, business people and
innovators, acknowledge the exceptional achievements of entrepreneurs who have
turned innovative ideas into commercially successful businesses.
They aim to:
* recognise and reward companies that have successfully commercialised SPII
supported projects
* promote SPII and innovation throughout the country
* bring SPII closer to the people by promoting innovation.
SPII is designed to promote and assist technology development in South
Africa by providing financial assistance to projects that develop innovative
products and processes.
