Premier Molewa pays tribute to Hendrik Tlou

21 February 2006

It is with a deep sense of shock and sadness that I learnt of the passing
away of Mr Hendrik Tlou, a dedicated son of this province. Mr Tlou passed-on on
Sunday, 19 February 2006, at his home in Montshiwa, Mafikeng.

The loss of a family member is not an easy one and often difficult to
comprehend. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Tlou family as you have to
deal with this loss.

On behalf of the provincial government and the people of the North West, I
convey my sincere and deepest condolences to his family and friends. Indeed, he
made his own contribution to the people he served.

His political career started during the days of the Tswana Territorial
Authority, when he became private secretary to the former President Lucas
Mangope of the erstwhile Bophuthatswana.

He later became Secretary of the Bophuthatswana National Assembly before he
assumed the Secretary to the Cabinet post. Tlou later became Deputy Minister of
Parliamentary Affairs. When the fall of Bophuthatswana came, he was Minister of
Local Government and Housing. He has also made a contribution in the planning
and construction of North West Legislature Building.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday. The funeral service will start at 07:00
from his home in Montshiwa Unit 1.
