DWAF to host National Water Week, 27 – 31 Mar

National Water Week rescheduled

28 February 2006

The Department of Water Affairs and Forestry today announced that National
Water Week will be celebrated from 27 to 31 March 2006, a week later than it
was originally scheduled.

National Water Week is a significant awareness campaign of the Department
and it serves as a powerful mechanism to popularise the importance of water to
the general public and to the general water stakeholder group. It creates a
platform for the Department and other relevant stakeholders to communicate
important water messages to the public.

The rescheduling of National Water Week is because the Minister of Water
Affairs and Forestry, Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, will be attending the fourth World
Water Forum in Mexico during this time. The Minister will form part of the
Regional Component of the World Water Forum, where primary discussions will
include aspects such as the understanding of the contribution of water to
national, regional and local economic and social development.

This year, the Department’s theme for National Water Week is “Water for
Growth and Development”, a sub-theme of the fourth World Water Forum.
