Defence to host International Military Chief of Chaplains Conference, 1
to 6 Feb

The First International Military Chief of Chaplains Conference
(IMCOCC): Cape Town, 1- 6 Feb 2009

27 January 2009

It is a great pleasure to invite, on behalf of General G N Ngwenya, Chief of
the South African National Defence Force, all the military chaplain generals,
military chief chaplains and military representatives of religion of all the
countries in the world to a first ever world conference from 1 to 6 February
2009.

This conference emanates from the International Military Chief of Chaplains
Conference, which started in 1990 and had its 19th conference in Copenhagen,
Denmark in 2008.

We look forward with excitement to this conference and cannot wait to also
share this conference with Military Chaplains Services that were never part of
this before.

The theme of the conference, “The Role of the Chaplain in Reconciliation and
Healing in Post-Conflict Reconstruction”, is especially timely. The Republic of
South Africa has much to offer in the way of understanding how to move beyond
bitter conflict to reconciliation and justice.

We trust that this conference will be really enriching for all the Military
Chaplains Services, and therefore for all the Defence Forces in the world.
