The Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Derek Hanekom, together with
Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel Corporation will inaugurate the Super Computer
donated by the Intel Corporation to the Meraka Institute.
The donation of this Super Computer will go a long way to complement the
efforts by the South African government to provide a world class research
infrastructure to our researchers. One of the major aims of this super computer
is to fasttrack the process of finding a cure for some of the country's most
serious illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, malaria and Tuberculosis, through advanced
bioinformatics.
