Is delivery in Agriculture really taking place? What has the Department of
Agriculture in the Western Cape done since 2004 to assist emerging farmers?
You are invited to join Minister Cobus Dowry as he visits the Leliefontein
project situated on the N7 12 km south of Malmesbury on Monday, 9 February 2009
at 11h00. Minister Dowry will visit the beneficiaries of the project together
with senior officials of the department assess the progress that has been made
up to date
The farm was purchased with Land Redistribution for Agricultural Development
(LRAD) funding for the sum of R410 000 from a total grant of R780 000. This
made it possible for the trust to purchase a tractor and implements, as well as
structures as wendy houses and electrical infrastructure.
2004/05: The Department of Agriculture (Western Cape) provided their first
Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP) funding during the 2004/05
financial year to the value of R50 000. This was mainly for fencing material
and gates.
2005/06: LRAD 21: Leliefontein farm. R260 000 was provided for the borehole
pump and irrigation system (R170 247), water connection and electricity to each
3.88 ha section, building material for pig housing and fertiliser.
2007/08: CASP 235: Leliefontein Farm/Trust: R332 211 was provided for water
tanks, irrigation material, hydrants, drippers, fencing material, garden tools,
retail scale, cling wrapper and wendy house.
2008/09: CASP 146: Leliefontein Farm/Trust: R250 000 for an additional
borehole, submersible pump, irrigation line to current irrigation scheme,
electric cable to pump, gravel for road and additional irrigation
equipment.
Pick ân Pay funding to the value of ± R800 000. Pick ân Pay officials visit
the farm on a regular three-monthly basis to see how their farming activities
are functioning.
