Deputy President to visit a Further Education and Training
(FET) College in False Bay, Cape Town

Deputy President Baleka Mbete will on Friday morning, 13 February, 2009,
together with senior officials, visit a Further Education and Training (FET)
College, the False Bay Good Hope Campus in Khayelitsha.

Directions:
Good Hope Campus: Follow N2 from Cape Town - heading to Somerset West. Leave
the N2 highway at the New Way off ramp. At intersection cross over the highway
heading down New Way road; Cross Pama road and Cross Spine road. Next road is
Steve Biko road. Good Hope Campus is between Spine road and Steve Biko
road.

The Deputy President and officials on arrival will be briefed by the
President of the False Bay FET College. Deputy President Baleke Mbete will also
view new infrastructure, developed through the recapitalisation programme of
national government followed by an address to both students and lecturers by
the Deputy President.

Background

False Bay FET College was founded in 2002 when Good Hope Community College,
South Peninsula College and Westlake Technical College were merged. The college
boasts 270 permanent staff members and has 4 300 projected full time registered
students for 2009.

The College comprises five campuses in and around the city of Cape
Town.
Good Hope Campus is a former teacher training college. At the end of 1996 the
teacher training college closed down, and in January 1997 the Good Hope
Community College was established. In 1998 the Good Hope Community College and
the then South Peninsula College merged.

Based in Khayelitsha, this campus accommodates 800 students annually and the
college's vision is to grow this number to 1000 in 2009. Of the 14 national
certificate (vocational) programmes, False Bay College offers 10 and five are
offered at the Good Hope Campus namely:
* engineering and related design
* electrical infrastructure construction
* office administration
* information technology and computer science
* finance, economics and accounting

In the 2006/07 and the 2007/08 financial years False Bay College focused
it's spending of the Recapitalisation Funds on three campuses, Muizenberg,
Westlake and Good Hope.
