Paris City Councillor, Jean Vuillermoz, will lead a high-level French
delegation to Johannesburg from Sunday 26 November to Wednesday 29 November for
the signing of a twinning agreement between Maison Blanche hospital and Gauteng
Mental Health Services.
Gauteng MEC for Health Brian Hlongwa and Vuillermoz, who is also the
President of the Maison Blanche Hospital Board, will sign the historical
twinning agreement on Wednesday 29 November.
The twinning project which was initiated in 2001 is funded by the European
Union through the national Department of Health.
The signatories are expected to provide mutual support towards improvement
of management and efficiency in their respective mental health
institutions.
Gauteng mental health facilities which were chosen for the twinning project
are: Tara Hospital, Sterkfontein Hospital and Community Health Mental Services.
Delegates will visit these institutions as part of a fact finding mission.
The Department of Health's Support Services Chief Director, Dr Marion Ahern
has welcomed the initiative. She said that the project, which will run for 3
years, will "assist our mental health professionals to effectively tackle
psychiatric health challenges besetting our country."
More than 50 people including senior officials from the national Department
of Health are expected to attend the signing ceremony.
