B Creecy offers condolences on T Hlongwane's death

Gauteng mourns death of soccer legend Thomas Hlongwane

19 October 2006

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Barbara Creecy wishes to
express her condolences on the untimely death of former Moroka Swallows soccer
legend, Thomas "Who's fooling who" Hlongwane.

South Africa has lost a football icon. His contribution to the development
of football in the country will be deeply missed. It is particularly
unfortunate to lose a person of Hlongwane's stature as the country is in the
process of preparing for the 2010 World Cup. Talented development coaches are
now needed more than ever to guide emerging football stars. We hoped that under
Hlongwane's tutelage one or more of Mamelodi Sundowns' under 17 team members
would have made their way into the Premier League and ultimately into the 2010
national squad.

"On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, we would like to convey our
heartfelt condolences to the Hlongwane family, friends, Sundowns management and
the soccer fraternity at large," said Creecy.
