B Cele to open Road P68 as part of Transport Month, 19 Oct

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport will officially open Road
P68

As part of the Transport Month KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community
Safety and Liaison, Mr Bheki Cele, will tomorrow officiate the opening of the
first phase of Road P68, St Faiths. The opening will take place tomorrow, 19
October 2006, at Vusushaba Oshabeni near Vusushaba Store at Umzumbe at
10h00.

The construction of road P68 was subsequent to the sod-turning that took
place in 2002 for the upgrading of this stretch of the road.

To complete the first phase of P68, R111 million was spent on the
construction of 18,7 kilometres of blacktop by the end of the 2005/06 financial
year, and 100 percent of construction contracts were awarded to Vukuzakhe
Contractors. Besides the construction of the road two sports fields were
upgraded, 12 boreholes have been rehabilitated and a bursary programme has been
initiated to support the best performing high school science students. In 2003
road P68 received an award from the South African Institute for Civil
Engineers.
