Media accreditation for Women’s Day celebrations

4 August 2006

Members of the media are requested to apply for accreditation to cover the
celebration of the national Women’s Day on 9 August 2006 in Tshwane,
Gauteng.

Please submit your name and identity document (ID) or passport numbers,
media organisation you represent, responsibility (e.g. cameraperson, reporter)
as well as indicate which part of the programme you wish to cover e.g. women’s
march to Union Buildings, formal programme or both.

Time: 7h00 – 8h00 - Arrival of marchers at Strijdom Square next to State
Theatre
(Cultural performance)

Time: 8h00 – 8h10 - Welcome by Programme Director, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane

Time: 8h10 – 8h30 (10 minutes each) - Messages by:
1. representative of the Progressive Women’s Movement
2. Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture

Time: 8h30 – 8h40 - Explanation of route of the march and role of the
marchers and announcement of the leaders of the march and departure of the
march

Time: 8h40 - March departs from Strijdom Square and singing as march
proceeds

Time: 10h20 - Arrival of marchers at Union Buildings (UB)
Separation of marchers between those moving towards the Union Buildings and
those who will be going to the handover of the memorandum

Time: 10h30 – 10h50 - Handover of memorandum at the UB steps
(There will be a short programme focusing on the submission of the memorandum
and response by the Deputy President)

10h50 – 11h00: Movement of marchers to the lawns

11h00 – 11h05: National Anthem

11h05 – 11h15: Welcoming address by the Premier of Gauteng

11h15 – 11h20: Cultural item (poetry)

11h20 – 11h30: Message by veterans

11h30 – 11h35: Cultural Item; Youth Choir

11h35 – 11h40: Introduction of the President by Minister of the Department
