Many babies are born every year on New Year’s Day. Much hype is created around the first born babies and their parents.
The Western Cape Department of Health is proud to announce the birth of 213 babies in public health facilities in the Western Cape on New Year’s Day 2010.
119 baby boys and 94 baby girls were born. 147 of these babies were born in the Cape Town metropole and 67 babies were born in the rural districts.
Mowbray maternity hospital had the most New Year’s babies, 35 babies (22 boys and 13 girls) were born there yesterday. Our first New Year’s baby is the son of Gertruida Adams. The baby was born at 00h01 this morning in George hospital. His length was 51 centimetres and he weighed 3 280 grams at birth.
