The Minister for Public Service and Administration, Richard Baloyi has made new appointments to the board of directors of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA).

The move is part of the business re-engineering processes and the strengthening of the governance mechanism of the board.

The following appointments were made to the board of directors:
* Ms Febe C Potgieter-Gqubule (Deputy Chairperson), Ms Solani Victoria Bvuma, Mr Peter Kgame, Ms Koekie Mdlulwa, Prof Maredi Mphahlele, Ms Nontobeko Ntsinde and Ms Jacqueline Shibambu.

The following were appointed as alternate non executive members of the board:
* Mr Ronnie Mabena, Ms BM Malongete, Ms Nomvuyo Memory Mhlakaza, Ms Tumelo Moloko, Mr David Niddrie, Mr Geeva Pillay and Kgomotso Mthimunye.

The new members that have been appointed will join the currently serving board which includes Ms Zodwa Manase (Chairperson), Mr AM Luthuli, Ms R Sekese and Mr C Kruger.

The minister has emphasised that “the full complement of the SITA board of directors will contribute towards driving the development of the SITA turnaround strategy, which is in the process of being finalised and seeks to reposition SITA to address its many challenges under the theme: “SITA today, SITA tomorrow, SITA to the future”. This turnaround strategy will include among other things issues related to procurement, pricing and quality of service.”

As part of the immediate tasks of the board will be the appointment of top executives of SITA including the chief executive officer, chief financial officer and chief operations officer.

The minister will give instructions to the board to realise this latest by April 2010. This according to the minister will end the high turnover rate of top executives. The strengthened SITA governance and management structures will work differently to address complaints raised by SITA clients but also importantly they will follow-up on SITA clients that are highly indebted.

The minister has welcomed the newly appointed board members to the agency, noting that through their appointment the agency is well placed to successfully implement its mandate.
