NCOP slams North West Executive Council for not attending meeting

Members of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) have expressed shock and disappointment at Members of the Provincial Executive Council, including the Premier Ms Thandi Modise, for failing to attend a scheduled debriefing session of the NCOP Provincial Week today.

Said leader of the NCOP delegation, Mr Collen Maine: “It has become a tendency of the North West Executive Council not to attend NCOP meetings, specifically the oversight debriefing meeting.” The NCOP has also noticed a habit of Executive Council Members attending meetings but not staying for the full duration of the meetings. This often results in relevant issued not being addressed.

The NCOP was scheduled to meet the Legislature, MECs and the Premier to brief them on the outcome of the Provincial Week and to introduce the draft report to be considered by the relevant stakeholders. Mr Maine said the NCOP will raise the matter of non-attendance with the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Mr Supra Mahumapelo and Premier of the province, Ms Modise.
