Learners
Good morning
Appreciate that they made it to the winter school centres. Encourage the learners to work hard and take advantage of the programmes that the department is putting aside to help them improve their results.
Indicate that the department has developed the following programmes to assist the learners:
Dial-A-Tutor
This programme is accessible to assist learners when studying at home in cases where they struggle to comprehend certain aspects of the subject content.
The learners can dial the departmental toll free line 0800 203 116 from Monday to Thursday between 18h00 to 20h00.
Radio Lessons
The department in collaboration with SABC, Radio Pulpit, and the Mpumalanga Community Radio Stations are conducting weekly radio lessons to supplement the work done by educators.
Learners are requested to tune in between 14h00 to 15h00 to access these programmes.
Previous question papers
Learners are urged to use the previous question papers to prepare for the examinations and to do revision. These can be found from the departmental website; www.mpumalanga.gov.za/education.
Study Groups
Learners are requested to form study groups and call themselves “Education Tigers” to motivate each other to study, attend school everyday, and to respect the rules and regulations of their respective schools.
We embrace the concept of “Education Tigers” because of what we learned that Tigers don’t cry, they do quit, they are proud of themselves, powerful and fearless. These are characteristics I want you to embrace to improve your school performance.
Reflect on the Annual National Assessments (ANA) results
Indicate the need to change the scholastics achievement of learners from this province. Following the results released by the Minister of Basic Education, a lot still needs to be done to correct the situation.
Learners will be taught to read and write from early stages and parents need to come to the party. The department will implement an intensified programme to mitigate against the outcome of these results. We will invite every stakeholder to come on board to change these poor results.
Target for 2011 Grade 12 results
Last year we targeted to improve the Grade 12 results by 10%, we feel short by 1.1% since we received 8.9% pass rate. This year our target is still 10% across the board, you must help us to achieve this target.
Quarterly and half yearly results
Re-look at your first quarter and half yearly results, take the comments of the teachers seriously and make a concerted effort to improve.
Study everyday and stay in constant contact with your teachers. Do revisions and read the education material that appears in newspapers.
Count Down
Your final examinations will start on 17 October and end on 1 December this year. This says there are already 109 Days left before you commence with your examinations. Surely this must show you that time is no longer at your disposal.
Acceptable habits
Eat healthy food, avoid junk, participate in sport activities or exercise on daily basis. This will add impetus on your daily mood, reduce fatigue and your mind will be able to grasp school work easy.
Avoid drugs and unacceptable conduct. Listen to your teachers and parents all the time.
Tribute to Nelson Mandela
As we pay tribute to our father, statesman, first president of the Republic of South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
Let us follow on the footsteps of this son of the soil and make an honourable thing by doing good to the less privileged. Let us volunteer to give Nelson Mandela a precious gift which will be outstanding results this year. If you can’t do it for your self, do it for Madiba.
Appreciation
Thank learners, educators, parents, Centre Manager; Mrs Peth Kembel, Circuit Manager Mr Musa Linkwati, District Manager; Mr Mfana Lushaba, Ms Mpumalanga, Donny, Provincial Chairperson of COSAS, Teffo Radebe and all who are playing a pivotal role towards the success of this programme.
