The Mpumalanga MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Mr Norman Mokoena has indicated that he will appeal the decision of the North Gauteng High Court handed out on Wednesday, 8 June 2011, to set aside the decision to dissolve the Board of Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA).
“We need to stress that Judge de Vos’ ruling was based on procedural technicality and not on the substantive content of the case. The judge has indicated that we should have afforded individual board members an opportunity to make individual representations, meaning that we were supposed to have written to individual board members and not to the collective as we did,” explains MEC Mokoena.
This follows an urgent application to the North Gauteng High Court by eight (8) dismissed members of the MEGA Board, to have their dismissal set aside. “I have thus instructed our legal counsel to immediately apply for leave to appeal the judgment,” added MEC Mokoena.
