Mobile Thusongs reach over 6 000 people

The Department of Local Government has been rolling out Mobile Thusongs across the Western Cape since June 2011.

The Mobile Thusongs bring a variety of identified government services to far-flung areas, where people would normally need to travel long distances to reach them. The Mobile Thusongs have thus far been held in Zwelenthemba, Rawsonville, Riversdal, Grabouw, Zwelihle, Kayamandi and Gansbaai.

Over 6 000 people have been helped with queries at these Mobile Thusongs: 1 695 in Zwelenthemba, 1 062 in Rawsonville, 1 684 in Kayamandi and 1 634 in Gansbaai. Community members can go to the Mobile Thusongs to apply for IDs, find out about and apply for social grants, have health screenings, access learnerships and bursaries, get counselling, as well as a range of other government services and information.

The next Mobile Thusong will be held in Botrivier on the following date:
Date: 4 and 5 August 2011
Venue: Botrivier Rugby Field
Time: 08h30 to 16h30 (4 August) and 08h00 to 16h00 (5 August)
