Minister summons Bus Company and contemplates confiscation

Minister Robin Carlisle will summon SA Roadlink to a meeting early next week to explain why its buses continue to disregard traffic and transportation laws despite its assurances to the Minister in July that it was committed to comply with all legislation.

This follows the revelation that an SA Roadlink bus was pulled over by provincial officers on the N1 Hugenot Tunnel on Friday night for travelling without an operating license.

Minister Carlisle is outraged by the fact that the same bus is still serving a suspension notice for a previous traffic offence. "The mere fact that Roadlink knew that the bus was suspended and still sent it to the road is a reflection of its utter contempt for traffic and transport laws. I'm taking legal advice about the harshest possible sanctions (confiscation) that can be applied against all bus companies who flagrantly flout the law."

The Minister also reiterated that he will use the full force of the law against all bus operators that disregard the conditions of their operating licenses and put the lives of other road users at risk.
