Minister Patricia De Lille deploys Social Workers to Khayelitsha home of four year old Asenathi Komani

I am shocked and outraged at the results of the medical examination of little Asenathi Komani of Khayelitsha, which has shown that she was brutally raped.

As a mother I am unable to express my disgust that anyone can find it in themselves to lead a four year-old girl away from her friends and family and rob her of her innocence by raping her.

This case once again brings into stark relief the breakdown of the social fabric of our society, to a point where sexual abuse is rampant.

I have instructed our regional office to deploy social workers to Asenathi's home as a matter of urgency. I would like to ask the media to give the family space so that our social workers can offer them professional care and support in privacy.

The Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, has assured me that he will do everything in his power to ensure that the investigation receives the attention it deserves.
