Minister Meyer to open Africa Day celebrations at Artscape

On Wednesday, 25 May 2011, Dr Ivan Meyer, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape and responsible for International Relations, will open the Africa Day celebrations at Artscape.

While Africa Day originally commemorated the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on the 25th of May 1963, a body that was succeeded by the formation of the African Union in 2002, the name and date of Africa Day has been retained as a celebration of African unity.

The celebrations at Arstcape serve as a platform for the African consular corps to interact with members of the Western Cape Provincial Government and WESGRO, to establish possible cooperative business opportunities and build future business relations.

Minister Meyer will be discussing the hosting of a future isiXhosaAfrika conference, and showing guests exhibitions from Angola, Botswana, Namibia and Madagascar, before the viewing of the Amaza production.
