Please note: Latest information gathered by the National Disaster Management Centre is that over 6 000 people nationally have been displaced by the floods and other incidents of natural disasters; 40 people have lost their lives and damage amounting to R356-million so far has been calculated for natural-disaster related damages in only three provinces (Northern Cape, North West and KwaZulu-Natal). Consolidated information from the Eastern and Western Cape provinces is still outstanding
In terms of the Disaster Management Act, the Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has recommended that a Gazette be issued to declare a National State of Disaster covering the following seven provinces and 28 municipalities:
