Members of the public sector are urged to nominate procurement professionals and their institutions for the new Public Procurements awards branded the All About Public Procurement (AAPP) Awards that will take place on 15 August 2013 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.
The awards, which are an amalgamation of State Owned Enterprise Procurement Forum (SOEPF), and Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Africa’s Pan Africa Procurement Awards are aimed at creating greater awareness and promotion of the procurement profession in Africa.
According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, the Awards also seek to recognise excellent practice across the procurement profession for both public and private sectors, and to reward and recognise those procurement professionals and organisations doing excellent work.
“Public procurement is one of the key industrial levers in the Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) and State Owned Entities remain the main procurement catalysts which therefore makes SOEPF a strategic partner to the dti to maximise support for local procurement and transformation.
The Awards follow a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) that the dti and SOEPF signed in March this year, where they agreed that SOEPF will serve as a strategic partner and an advisory to the dti regarding procurement matters. The SOEPF’s strategy is to develop and take the lead in enterprise and supplier development to be implemented by all State Owned Enterprises.
