The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Minister Sakkie Jenner, will on Thursday, 27 August 2009 be sending off 10 South African Deaflympics team members, from the Western Cape, who will be representing the country at this year's Deaflympics.
"The games are taking place from the 5 to 15 September, in Taipei. As the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation in the Western Cape, I am once again honoured to be in the presence of men and women, who overcame all odds to become the best in their sports.
"Too many of us, having a shortfall to others, would render us powerless and helpless, but these men and women faced their challenges head-on and came out on top."
