The Minister of Community Safety, Advocate Lennit Max expresses his concern on the two recent fatal crashes, in Pinelands and Durbanville, which claimed the lives of five young people.
Max conveys his condolences to the families of the deceased and adds that it is tragic that the young lives of people, who were at the start of promising stages in their individual lives, were lost through human error. He warns that speeding as well as reckless driving places the life of the offender as well as other road users at great risk. These two offences are the leading factors in the high death rate on our roads.
Max appeals to young road users not to let the excitement of the end of their school career cloud their judgment, but to cautiously obey the rules of the road. Young drivers must recognise that they don't have the necessary driving experience and skills to react swiftly in an unexpected situation.
