A vicious circle of poor service delivery by certain members of the police still remains a matter of grave concern for all in the Western Cape who want to live and work in a safe and secure environment.
As crime and criminality in the Western Cape still is rife and the mandate of the MEC for Community Safety, Advocate Lennit Max, is to make sure that the police protect and serve the community, this department will never keep quiet. The MEC's office is inundated by complaints from concerned community members who share their sometimes horrific experiences at the hands of certain members of the police.
On Monday evening a Bothasig businessman, Mr Larry Coe, sustained serious injuries when he went to the assistance of a woman who was attacked by robbers. Sadly he is still waiting for the Bothasig police to take his statement. It is exactly this shocking service by certain members of the police that the honourable minister has been fighting against since taking up office.
Minister Max will now ask the provincial commissioner to investigate this matter at the Bothasig police station. If any negligence on the part of the police should be found, this office will act accordingly. The Minister ardently believes that police officials must serve the community to the best of their ability and defend the integrity of the uniform and profession.
There is no place for any poor form of service at any police station in the province as the lives of law abiding citizens are at stake. The minister said that such bad practices undo the sterling work of hardworking colleagues.
