Labour Minister, Membathisi Mdladlana has described as mischievous and devoid of all truth a newspaper report that the Director-General of his department, Jimmy Manyi was appointed contrary to his wishes.
Mdladlana says Manyi was simply the best candidate for the position during the short listing process and the actual interview. He says the short listing was done by three former Director-Generals of the Department of Labour, Mr Sipho Pityana, Advocate Rams Ramasia and Dr Vanguard Mkosana including himself.
"Unanimously the four of us agreed that Manyi was one of the best candidates," Mdladlana said.
He says Manyi was an outstanding candidate during the interview which was conducted by himself, two fellow ministers and a Director-General.
"Included in this panel was a trade union representative, the general secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers."
Mdladlana warned that the journalist should not be misled by a common mistake that his Director-General might have committed.
