Limpopo Premier, Cassel Mathale makes changes to the Executive Council

The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs bid farewell to MEC Soviet Lekganyane as he leaves the provincial department. Lekganyane will now assume his responsibilities on full time basis as the Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo. The departure of Lekganyane necessitated the appointment of a new MEC to replace him.

The Limpopo provincial government is committed to its key priorities that are geared at enhancing service delivery and improving the lives of our people. In the interest of shifting the gear on the delivery of the government priorities of education, health, creating jobs, realising rural development and ensuring safety and security, Limpopo Premier, Cassel Mathale took a decision to make further changes to the Executive Council.

The new Executive Council stands as follows:

  • MEC for Health and Social Development - Dr. Norman Mabasa
  • MEC for Roads and Transport - Mr Pitsi Moloto
  • MEC for Economic Development, Environment & Tourism - Ms Pinkie Kekana
  • MEC for Education - MR. Dickson Masemola
  • MEC for Agriculture-Mr Jacob Marule
  • MEC for Treasury - Mr David Masondo
  • MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture - Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba
  • MEC Safety, Security and Liaison - Ms Florence Dzhombere
  • MEC for Corporate Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs - Mr Clifford Motsepe
  • MEC for Public Works - Ms Thabitha Mohlala

The Premier extends his gratitude to the outgoing Members of the Executive Council for the colossal contribution that they made to the government. It is through their effort that we have been able to make notable achievements in the past 18 years. We wish them well into the future.

Four new MECs join government in the departments of Health and Social Development; Agriculture, Safety, Security and Liaison as well as Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA). Ms Florence Dzhombere who is the current Deputy Secretary of the ANC in Limpopo and Vhembe Region as well as the Chairperson of the Woman’s League in the same Region brings expertise in governance as the Executive Mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality.

Dr Norman Mabasa joins the province from the South African Medical Association where he served as president and chairperson at different times in his career and continues to occupy other leadership positions in various institution of health. He has outstanding medical experience within the medical field in the private sector and he will bring that wealth of experience into the public sector.

Mr Clifford Motsepe is the former Head of Department of CoGHSTA which achieved a clean audit report under his leadership as the accounting officer. He has served as the National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) and he is the current PEC member of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo.

Mr Jacob Marule who is a veteran and a stalwart of the anti-apartheid struggle, a member of the Luthuli detachment as well as a former Deputy Mayor of the town of Chase in Canada in North America brings a wealth of experience as an affirmed leader in government. Mr Marule is also the current Chairperson of the ANC Veteran’s League in Limpopo.

Mathale sends well wishes to the new MECs as they embrace the mammoth task of leading their respective departments and delivering to the well deserving people of Limpopo.
