Latest report on South African equity trends

The government’s employment equity policies will be a focal point as Commission on Employment Equity (CEE) Chairperson Jimmy Manyi officially releases the 2008/09 employment equity report on Monday.

Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana will officially receive the annual report from Manyi, who will go into detail on its various aspects as well as the latest equity trends in the South African labour market.

Since its enactment under the auspices of the 1998 Employment Equity Act, the CEE has always pursued the promotion of constitutional equality and erosion of labour market disparities in employment, occupation and income which are legacies of past discriminatory practices.

Contravention of the legislation’s provisions has in recent years seen watershed Labour Court sanctions against some employers, while the process itself remains a hotly contested terrain. The media is invited. Details of time and venue for the launch are as follows:

Venue: Laboria House, room G01 (ground floor), 215 Schoeman Street (corner Paul Kruger Street), Pretoria central
