Labour Director-General's whistle stop pauses in Cape Town

Today saw the Cape Town Labour Centre’s labour staff hosting the Department of Labour’s new Director-General Nkosinathi Nhleko as part of his two-month hectic programme of interacting with his officials and staff in all nine provinces.

It was also a day that the Director-General used to emphasise the focal point of his visit as being to deal with capacity issues in the area of infrastructure and to ensure that people are treated fairly and decently at the delivery point.

Nhleko was however, quick to inform staff that while he does not have a magic wand, he would do all his power to ensure that service delivery challenges are addressed.

“This visit will enable us to understand the state of the department in terms of people, assets and whatever service delivery challenges exist,” Nhleko said.

Nhleko and his entourage will spend two days in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday and Tuesday.

Since starting his duties on May 10, to date, Nhleko has visited Labour offices and centres in provinces such as Northern Cape, Free State, Limpopo, Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga and one of the department’s business entity, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
