The Director-General of Labour Nkosinathi Nhleko will on Monday, 11 July, begin his taxing schedule for the next two months crisscrossing the country on a fact finding mission by visiting the department’s offices and labour centres.
Nhleko, appointed a month ago promised staff during his inaugural address that he will be visiting the provinces as part of an effort to ascertain the extent of challenges faced in the provinces where most of the department’s delivery take place.
First on his schedule will be a two-day visit to the Northern Cape and this will be followed by another two-day visit to the Free State starting on Wednesday, 13 July. He will round-of his visit for the week with a visit to the Compensation Fund, which this week announced after its board meeting it has posted a surplus of R3,2 billion in the past financial year.
The Fund which raised R5,2 billion assessment revenue as compared to R4,8 billion in the previous financial year, is an entity of the Department of Labour which manages funds for injuries and illness sustained during work.
The following week (18 July) he will make a turn to Limpopo province. His stay in Limpopo will be followed by another two-day visit to the Eastern Cape starting on 20 to 21 July and will round the week with another two-day visit to KwaZulu-Natal which culminates on 23 July.
After taking a breather attending to other departmental matters he will on 29 July visit one of the department’s entity, the Unemployment Insurance Fund. In-between his visits to the provinces, he will also use his time to team-up with Labour minister Mildred Oliphant and the inspection and enforcement unit of the department to conduct blitz inspections which are aimed on ensuring occupational compliance to safety and health standards.
On 4 August he will pay a two-day visit to the North West province. This will be followed by yet another two-day visit to Mpumalanga starting on 8 August. On 10 to 11 August it will be Gauteng’s turn and will round off his provincial excursions with a visit to the Western Cape on August from 12 to 13 August.
