Kaseinyane's death has robbed province of a committed, assertive leader and public representative - Premier Modise

North West Premier Thandi Modise is saddened by the death of former MEC for Health and Social Development and Member of the Provincial legislature, Onewang Rebecca Kasienyane and says that her untimely death has robbed the province of a committed and assertive leader and public representative who rose from humble beginnings as an Early Childhood Development Practitioner to contribute to the betterment of the lives of the poorest of the poor in our communities.

“Comrade Kasienyane has left an indelible mark through her selfless services to our communities as an activist and an elected public representative. She leaves behind a legacy of collectivism that should be emulated. As we convey our condolences to the Kasienyane family, we are grateful that her family shared with us their jewel, their humble, unassuming and loving mother, a dedicated cadre, a comrade and friend to many who looked up to her for guidance and leadership,” Premier Modise.

Kasienyane had served as a Councillor at Bophirma District Council (1995 to 1999), Member of Parliament (1999 to 2004) and Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Labour in the National Assembly (2004 to 2009), Member of the Executive Council (2009 to 2010) and was the current Chairperson of the Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism Portfolio in the provincial legislature.

A memorial service in Kasienyane’s honour is to be held at 14h00 in the Provincial legislature Chamber on Thursday. She is to be buried at Lokaleng village in Greater Taung on Saturday.
