The SABC has partnered with Primedia in a bid to expand the highly successful Crime Line initiative. In its first year of operation, Crime Line boasts over 500 arrests and R21 million worth of counterfeit goods and drugs seized.
SABC Group CEO, Dali Mpofu, says the public broadcaster will work to promote the initiative across its national radio and television stations. Users send anonymous tip-offs to the line through sms to the number 32211. The tips are then passed on to the police for further investigation.
Currently, there are a number of high profile investigations underway. The majority of the arrests are drug related but also include wanted murderers, child rapists, counterfeiters and armed robbers.
