The injured are given recognition

All people that were injured while on duty and their injuries resulted in them making use of artificial devices such as wheelchairs, hands, eyes, legs, hearing aids etc. can now smile again. This after the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund in Limpopo province announced that after five years of using such devices, the affected parties can go to their nearest labour centres for assessment. “The practice has been taking place for quite a long time, we are only doing this to remind those that might have forgotten or those that did not know,” said Leah Mlambo, the Assistant Manager of the Compensation Fund in the province.

“If the device is found not to be functioning accordingly after the assessment, such a device will be replaced through Orthotist free of charge,” said Mlambo. According to Mlambo if any artificial device does not fit because of change in body mass, such an individual can immediately apply for a refit. Mlambo said that all artificial devices can be replaced after five years of usage, with an exception of an eye that must be replaced every year.
