Home Affairs Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan to launch Home Affairs Youth Forum

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Fatima Chohan, will on Friday 23 March 2012 officially launch the first ever Youth Forum in government in which approximately 70 young people of 35 years and under, from the department will participate.

The launch of the Home Affairs Youth Forum will take place from Friday – Sunday 23-25 March 2012.

This comes within the context of the department's commitment to develop a cadre of young people able to deliver on government's mandate to create a better life for all our people.  Such a cadre will necessarily be patriotic, loyal and tenacious to the objectives of government.

Accordingly, the delegates to the forum will deliberate on the following issues: cadre development, immigration policies and civic matters.

The outcomes of these discussions will determine the way in which young people will shape their contribution to the department in particular and South African society in general. In this regard, young people have through the ages been at the cutting edge of social transformation.

In a time when South Africa is committed to advancing its fundamental social and economic transformation, of which its developmental agenda is a key priority, the energy and vitality of youth must be harnessed and channeled so that working together as partners, we may achieve our national objectives.
