Heritage Week

In commemoration of Heritage Month, under the theme "Celebrating South Africa's Living Human Treasures -The Custodians of our Living Heritage", the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has partnered with Iziko Museum to host a Heritage Open Week from 20 to 23 September 2010 at the Western Cape Archives and Records Services Building, Roeland Street, Cape Town.

Heritage Week will explore our cultural roots and the diverse traditions transferred from generation to generation. The aim is to make the community aware of the hugely valuable archival records and equip them with the necessary skills to compile their own family histories and teach them to preserve and exhibit important family documents.

Working under the theme, "Together Lets Celebrate the Roots of our Heritage" DCAS will be offering daily genealogical research and records exhibitions, guided tours of the Archives building and family history workshops.

Media is invited to attend as follows:
Date: 20 to 23 September 2010
Venue: 72 Roeland Street, Western Cape Archives and Record Services, Cape Town
Time: 09h00 to 13h00
