The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in conjunction with the South African National Defence Force invite members of the media to the graduation Ceremony of 1 000 young people from the National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) in Kimberly. The event will be held at 3SAI Military Base on Thursday, 2 August 2012.
Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mr Gugile Nkwinti together with top officials from the South African National Defence Force will grace the event.
NARYSEC is a skills development programme within the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and its main goal is to recruit and develop rural youth aged 18 -35 years to be paraprofessionals who will provide community service in the communities in which they reside.
The programme was launched in 2010 and in its first intake it attracted 8 041 rural youth from around the country. The second intake in 2012 attracted more than 5 000 youth and 1 000 of these youth were sent to 3 SAI Military Base in Kimberley to undergo a non-military training programme for a period of four months, starting on 3 March 2012 ending on 2 August 2012.
The youth received non-military training which involves instilling a culture of discipline through character building and life skills orientation.
