Government departments to target Limpopo Employers – Oliphant

In an unprecedented move, the forthcoming blitz inspection by the Department of Labour will see other departments joining the party to ensure that no area of non-compliance goes unnoticed.

This was said by Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant in her first address to the Board of the Compensation Fund in Pretoria today 5 July. The Board of the Fund comprises stakeholders from the organised labour, organised business and the government.

“This integrated approach will see the Department of Labour joining hands with the Departments of Health, Agriculture, Mining as well as Home Affairs.” While the Department of Labour will focus on compliance with labour laws, other departments will be looking at different areas of their expertise. It is time for government inspectors to work together to ensure that there is no escape route for recalcitrant employers.”

The Department of Labour is scheduled to embark on a two-day hectic programme of inspection in Limpopo which will culminate in an Imbizo that will be addressed by Minister Oliphant at Mokopane Stadium later this month.

Oliphant told the board that in their endeavours to seek solutions to challenges facing the Fund in the processing of claims, they should consider a processing system that talks to all levels of government. She encouraged the Board members to interact with the officials of the department to keep themselves abreast of developments especially in far-flung and often neglected areas of the country.
