Cash-strapped Aurora mineworkers are to be finally paid their outstanding wages by next Friday, if the Department of Labour has its way.
The move follows the mine having deposited an amount of R2.3 million into the department’s account to facilitate payment of its 1 500 workers some of whom are foreign nationals.
“Those eligible are workers earning below the Basic Conditions of Employment Act threshold,’’ Mildred Oliphant, Labour Minister, said today, Thursday.
For those earning above the threshold, the department has prepared all individual outstanding salaries and advised labour unions to pursue the matter in the Labour Court, Oliphant said.
