Gauteng to rename R21/R24 to Albertina Sisulu Drive

28 August 2007

The Gauteng Provincial Government is to rename the R21/R24 road to Albertina
Sisulu Freeway to honour her for the contribution she made to the struggle.
Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa announced the renaming in his State of the
Province Address in February this year, and said the intention is to honour and
acknowledge Mama Sisulu for her contribution to the liberation of this country,
the building of democracy and women's emancipation.

Since then, the Gauteng Department of Public Transport, Roads and Works has
undertaken a consultative process on the proposed name change. The new name
will be unveiled as a highlight of Women's Month on Thursday, 30 August
2007.
