Gauteng Premier to launch Gauteng Vision 2055

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will on Thursday, 27 March 2014, launch the Gauteng Vision 2055 (G2055). In 2012, the Gauteng Provincial Government launched the G2055 Discussion Document to allow the residents of Gauteng and stakeholders to give their views on how they the Gauteng City Region (GCR) to look by 2055.

Gauteng 2055 is a long term development plan for the GCR. The vision for Gauteng 2055 is to create a liveable, equitable, prosperous and united city-region by focusing on stimulating equitable growth, creating social inclusivity and cohesion, thus ensuring sustainable development.

2055 marks the centenary of the Freedom Charter and the G2055 will allow the citizens to reflect on the past, appreciate the present and realise the potential of the future – which can be forged through focused efforts on partnership between the residents of Gauteng and the government.

Gauteng residents were afforded an opportunity to make comments and submission through various public participation forums headed by the Gauteng Planning Commission (GPC).

The launch will be carried out in two phases:

  • An exhibition of the past from 1955 to date
  • A media launch and a cocktail function

An exhibition, which is open to the public, will be held over two days (25 to 26 March 2014) and will culminate in the launch on 27 March.

The media is invited as follows:
Date: Thursday, 27 March 2014
Time: 14h00
Venue: Walter Sisulu Square, Kliptown.
