Sport and Recreation South Africa in partnership with the Western Cape provincial government hosted a 2010 Mass Mobilisation and Legacy roadshow on 26 to 27 February 2010 at Boland Park in Worcester.
This roadshow was aimed to ensure that all South Africans become a part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup excitement by encouraging and supporting sport, especially soccer, in communities throughout South Africa. It also served as an opportunity to share information on important matters such as ticketing and match schedules. Roadshows have taken place in seven of the nine provinces across the South Africa between February and December 2009.
The 2010 Ambassadors, football legends Phil Masinga, Mark Fish, Doctor Khumalo and Desiree Ellis carried out coaching clinics alongside local development partners on the Friday. Sporting equipment has been handed over to the province as part of leaving a lasting legacy for sporting development.
Zakumi, the 2010 mascot, graced the occasion and top artist, DJ Cleo entertained the crowds. It coincided with the Western Cape’s provincial ball games where learners between the ages of 14 and 16 years from across the province are participating and competing against each other in various ball games. These include, five-a-side soccer, sevens rugby, volleyball, netball, and softball. 880 learners from the six districts are competing.
