An affidavit is a written statement made under oath. This means the person making the statement swears that the contents are true and understands that they may be prosecuted if any part of the statement is false.
Affidavits are often required in situations such as:
- Replacing lost or stolen documents (e.g. ID, passport),
- Giving consent for a child to travel with one parent or a school group,
- Providing a formal account of events for legal or administrative purposes.
You can make an affidavit at any police station, where an officer will provide you with a standard form and help you complete the process.
