The Community Work Programme (CWP) offers eligible, unemployed or under‑employed South Africans a paid, part-time opportunity to contribute to community upliftment. It provides a reliable safety-net while participants look for full-time employment.
1. What is the CWP?
- Provides 2 work days weekly ( 8 days monthly or 100 days annually)
- Participants receive a daily stipend—currently R81/day, with occasional supervisory roles earning slightly more
- Tasks include community cleaning, home- and school-based support, food gardens, safety initiatives, basic maintenance, etc.
2. Who qualifies?
Priority is given to:
- Unemployed or under‑employed individuals with valid SA ID
- Youth (18–35), women (especially single mothers), people with disabilities, elderly able to work
- No formal qualifications or prior experience needed
3. What do I need to register?
- South African ID or proof of citizenship
- Proof of residence (e.g., utility bill)
- Bank details (where stipends are deposited)
4. How to apply
- Approach your local municipal office, community centre, or CWP site
- Complete the request form and provide documents
- Local implementing agencies and ward-level committees coordinate registration

5. What stipend will I receive?
- R81 per day, for 8 days/month (R648 monthly)
- Supervisory roles may receive around R106 per day
