The Department of Basic Education offers several support options if you want to improve your matric results or rewrite one or more subjects.
1. Second Chance Matric Support Programme
A national, year‑round initiative that helps you rewrite up to two NSC or SC subjects in the May/June exams.
- Register: 1 Oct – 7 Feb
- Who qualifies:
- NSC candidates needing up to two extra subjects
- Young adults or those who missed the standard exams due to valid reasons (e.g. medical)
- Those aiming to meet school or university admission requirements
- Support offered:
- Free face‑to‑face lessons, printed study guides
- Online courses, TV and radio tutorials
- Past exam papers and multimedia resources

2. Supplementary or Rewrite Exams
- Missed your November exams due to valid reasons ? You can rewrite in May/June:
- Acceptable reasons: serious illness, family bereavement, or approved circumstances
- Provide documentary proof at registration
3. Re‑mark or Re‑check Your Results
- If you’re unhappy with your marks:
- Re‑check: ensures marks were correctly added (fee R30)
- Re‑mark: script is re‑assessed (fee R116–R120)
- Viewing: after remark/re‑check, view script (fee R220–R230)
- When to apply: within 21 days of result release (mid‑January to late January)
How: via your school or district office, or online through the e‑Gov portal (eServices) - Results are released in early March
