Where can I find out more about improving my matric results?

The Department of Basic Education's Second Chance Matric Support Programme affords candidates that have not met the minimum requirements in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or matric examinations, and who require no more two subjects to obtain an NSC, an opportunity to rewrite those subjects. To write the supplementary examination they must register before a cut-off date in January of the year following the examination.

Candidates who could not sit or finish the November examination due to medical reasons, a death in the family, or another special reason, can also write the supplementary examinations. Such a candidate must provide documentary evidence of why they were not able to write in November.

Candidates who do not satisfy the minimum higher education entry requirements or higher education faculty requirements for a specific occupation with one subject can also rewrite that subject, provided documentary evidence is provided.

Candidates who are not satisfied with their results can apply for either a re-mark or re-check.  Application forms for re-checking or re-marking of examination answer scripts are available from schools or examination centres. An online service is being piloted in 2018 only in Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Support for candidates preparing for the examinations are offered through the Second Chance Matric Support Programme in the form of free face-to-face classes, multimedia broadcasting solutions, online course support that is available throughout the year, as well as printed resources that are available through the face-to-face classes or from District or DBE offices.

Candidates can post questions on the DBE Second Chance Facebook page.
