2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon)

2013-01-19T12:00:00 - 2013-02-10T12:00:00

President Jacob Zuma (far left) shares a joke with Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Issa Hayatou (far right) during the AFCON prize-giving ceremony, watching is CAF Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chief Communications Officer Sipho Sithole and South African Football Association (SAFA) Vice-President Mwelo Nokonyane (both in the middle).

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations started on the 19th of January, with the opening ceremony followed by a match between South Africa and Cape Verde which ended in a goalless draw. To allow everyone to share in the excitement, Government has organised big screen showings in all provinces.

The tournament is the 29th Afcon, the football championship of Africa organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
