Environment schools shine during BMW awards

The BMW Sustainable Energy, Environment and Development (SEED) programme is aimed at recognising schools that are creating environmental awareness, and promoting environmental issues in schools.

The Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in partnership with BMW have identified two local schools for the BMW SEED programme, who won a Premier Award for their contribution in the programme.

“The requirements for this year’s BMW SEED achievement award were that learners should have started with the learner seed gardens at home, they should have initiated projects to plant vegetables and incorporated this into the school’s feeding scheme,” said Mr Beinzenhout from BMW.

The schools that received the awards were Sandzile Primary School in Mbombela and Emttfuntini Primary school in Nkomazi. Both schools were given an amount of R5 000 each

All the schools that participated in the competition were given certificates of recognition and a R1 000 cash prize.
