E Molewa on changes in executive council

Statement by Premier Edna Molewa on changes relating to the
deployment of members of the executive council

10 May 2007

On 23 August 2005, we made changes to the composition of the Executive
Council which we assembled at the beginning of our term in 2004. Today, almost
two years later, a need has arisen to necessitate further changes.

The changes we are announcing today are meant to strengthen our capacity to
deliver and to accelerate our advance towards the reconstruction and
development of our country.

My confidence in all members of the Executive Council remains unshaken as a
result of the commitment they have consistently demonstrated since accepting
the responsibility of being part of this dedicated collective leadership.

I am pleased to announce the following changes in the composition of the
Executive Council which will take effect from 1 June 2007:

Department: Roads, Transport and Safety
MEC: Mr Phenye Vilakazi (formerly MEC for Local Government and Housing)

Department: Public Works
MEC: Jerry Thibedi (formerly MEC for Roads, Transport and Community Safety)

Department: Local Government and Housing
MEC: Mr Howard Yawa (formerly MEC for Public Works)

There will be no changes with regards to the following departments:
Department: Economic Development and Tourism
MEC: Mr Darkey Africa

Department: Health
MEC: Ms Nomonde Rasmeni

Department: Education
MEC: Rev Johannes Tselapedi

Department: Arts, Culture and Sports
MEC: Mr Ndleleni Duma

Department: Agriculture, Conservation and Environment
MEC: Mr Mandlenkosi Mayisela

Department: Finance
MEC: Ms Maureen Modiselle

Department: Social Development
MEC: Ms Nikiwe Mangqo

It will be noted that I have chosen to retain the same team, but redeploy
some of them in areas where I am confident they will make the necessary
impact.

I have no doubt that this team will continue to carry on its shoulders, the
aspirations of our people as we enter the most critical milestones of our
journey towards the Second Decade of Freedom.

It is through the selfless performance of the collective leadership that
constitutes the Executive Council that I have been able to renew, on behalf of
our government, our pledge to build a better life for the people of this
province.
