The repealed University of Port Elizabeth (Private) Amendment Act 83 of 1996 intended:
- to amend the University of Port Elizabeth Act, 1964 [repealed in 2001], so as
- to delete or substitute certain definitions;
- to amend the name of the province in which the University is seated; and
- to amend the term of office of the chancellor; and
- to regulate the composition of the council and the senate of the University anew; and
- to provide for matters connected therewith.
