Treaties of Peace Act, 1921 [No. 32 of 1921]

Act

to facilitate the carrying into effect, in so far as concerns the Union of South Africa of certain treaties of peace between His Majesty the King and certain other powers and to extend the operation of Act No 49 of 1919.

Be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate and the House of Assembly of the Union of South Africa, as follows:-

Power to give effect to certain peace treaties.

1. The Governor-General may make such appointments, establish such offices, issue such proclamations and regulations and do such things as appear to him to be necessary for giving effect, so far as concerns the Union, to any of the provisions of the following treaties of peace between His Majesty the King and certam Powers, viz.:

(1) the treaty of peace with Austria, signed at aint Germain-en-Laye, on the tenth day of September, 1919;

(2) the treaty of peace with Bulgaria, signed at Neuilly-sur-Seine on the twenty-seventh day of November, 1919.

(3) the treaty of peace with Hungary, signed at Trianon on the fourth day of June, 1920, and

(4) the treaty of peace with Turkey, signed at Sèvres on the tenth day of August, 1920;

and any act of the Governor-General in that behalf shall be lawful notwithstanding any provision to the contrary in any law contained.

Extension of operation of Act No. 49 of 1910.

2. Anything to the contrary notwithstanding in section five of Act No. 49 of 1919, the provisions of that Act shall remain in operation until repealed by Parliament.

Short title.

This Act may be cited for all purposes as the Treaties of Peace Act, 1921.
